Tyriq Withers will star in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Reminders of Him, Deadline reports.

Hoover’s novel, published in 2022 by Montlake Romance, tells the story of Kenna, a woman who has been released from prison after serving a sentence for killing her boyfriend, Scotty. While in prison, Kenna gave birth to Scotty’s child, and the baby was given to Scotty’s parents; after she’s released, she falls in love with Ledger, Scotty’s best friend.

A critic for Kirkus wrote of the novel, “With captivating dialogue, angst-y characters, and a couple of steamy sex scenes, Hoover has done it again.”

Withers, known for his roles in films including Tell Me Lies and The Game, will star opposite Maika Monroe (It Follows, Longlegs). The film will be written by Hoover and Lauren Levine, both of whom will produce. Vanessa Caswill (Thirteen, Little Women) will direct.

Two other film adaptations of Hoover’s novels are also in the works: Regretting You, which will be directed by Josh Boone and star Allison Williams and Mckenna Grace, and Verity, directed by Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett.

Withers shared the news of his casting on Instagram:“feeling beyond grateful to step into this story. one that is rooted in suffering, grief, pain, forgiveness, and ultimately, healing. knowing the ache of loss myself, this role feels deeply personal. i only hope to honor those who have loved and lost, and to serve as a light for anyone still finding their way through the darkness.”
