A limited series based on Jon Krakauer’s Under the Banner of Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones, will premiere in April on Hulu, Deadline reports.
Krakauer’s book, published in 2003 by Doubleday, tells the story of the murder of Brenda Lafferty and her baby daughter. The two were killed by Dan and Ron Lafferty, Brenda’s brothers-in-law and members of a fundamentalist Mormon sect, the School of Prophets. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus wrote, “Krakauer lays the portent on beautifully, building his tales carefully from the ground up until they irresistibly, spookily combust.”
Garfield, who earned Oscar nominations for his performances in Hacksaw Ridge and Tick, Tick…Boom!, will play Jeb Pyre, a detective investigating the murders. Golden Globe nominee Edgar-Jones stars as Brenda. Dan and Ron Lafferty will be portrayed by Wyatt Russell (The Good Lord Bird) and Sam Worthington (Avatar), respectively.
Also starring are Taylor St. Pierre (Snowpiercer), Scott Michael Campbell (Brokeback Mountain), Rory Culkin (You Can Count on Me), Denise Gough (The Good Traitor), and newcomers Beau McHattie, Sophia Fabris, and Alayna Edwards.
The series is written by Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar), who executive produces alongside Brian Glazer, Ron Howard, Anna Culp, Michael Costigan, Jason Bateman, David Mackenzie, and Gillian Berrie. Mackenzie directs the series.
Under the Banner of Heaven will premiere on April 28.
