The screen adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s Reminders of Him has found its director, Deadline reports.
Vanessa Caswill will direct the film based on Hoover’s novel, published in 2022 by Montlake Romance. The book follows Kenna, a woman who has been freed from prison after serving a sentence for killing her boyfriend, Scotty. While in prison, Kenna gives birth to Scotty’s child, and the baby is given to Scotty’s parents; after she’s released, she falls in love with Scotty’s best friend, Ledger.
A critic for Kirkus wrote of the novel, “With captivating dialogue, angst-y characters, and a couple of steamy sex scenes, Hoover has done it again.”
Caswill is known for directing the BBC miniseries Thirteen and Little Women and the film Love at First Sight, an adaptation of Jennifer E. Smith’s The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.
The Reminders of Him adaptation will be written by Hoover and Lauren Levine (Bridge to Terabithia); both writers will also produce. Hoover and Levine are producing an adaptation of Hoover’s Verity as well, to be directed by Michael Showalter with Anne Hathaway, Josh Hartnett, and Dakota Johnson starring.
Yet another Hoover adaptation is in the works as well: Regretting You, based on the author’s 2019 novel. The film is being directed by Josh Boone, with a cast that includes Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, and Dave Franco.
