The winners of the Goodreads Choice Awards have been revealed, with Alison Espach, Kristin Hannah, and Emily Henry among the authors taking home the prizes voted on by users of the website for readers.
Espach won the fiction prize for The Wedding People, her novel about a woman who befriends a bride at a Rhode Island hotel. The book was the July pick for Jenna Bush Hager’s Today show book club.
Hannah prevailed in the historical fiction category for her bestselling The Women, while Moore took home the mystery and thriller award for The God of the Woods.
Funny Story, the most recent novel from the phenomenally popular rom-com author Emily Henry, won the romance prize as well as the audiobook award, which she shared with narrator Julia Whelan. Sarah J. Maas’ House of Flame and Shadow, the third installment of her Crescent City series, took home the romantasy award.
Winning in the fantasy category was T.J. Klune’s Somewhere Beyond the Sea. Kaliane Bradley won the science fiction prize for The Ministry of Time, while Stephen King prevailed in the horror category for You Like It Darker.
Other winners included Yulin Kuang’s How To End a Love Story (debut fiction); Rebecca Ross’ Ruthless Vows (young adult fantasy and science fiction); Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper: Volume Five (young adult fiction); Jonathan Haidt’s The Anxious Generation ( nonfiction); Kelly Bishop’s The Third Gilmore Girl (memoir); and Evan Friss’ The Bookshop (history and biography).
