Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben have revealed the details of the novel they wrote together.

The actor/book club maven and the thriller author announced they were collaborating on a book last October, but details were scant, with publisher Grand Central saying only that it would be a suspense novel.

Grand Central said this week that the novel, set to be released this fall, is titled Gone Before Goodbye. The publisher revealed the cover of the book on the social platform X.

The novel follows Maggie McCabe, an Army combat surgeon whose medical license is revoked after a series of tragic events. She agrees to take a job working for a plastic surgeon with a shadowy clientele and later becomes a fugitive after one of her patients disappears. Grand Central says the book is “the unforgettable story of an indomitable woman, trapped in a conspiracy she helped create but can’t understand.”

The novel is based on an idea by Witherspoon, who will make her fiction debut with the book; she is the author of a nonfiction book, Whiskey in a Teacup, as well as three children’s picture books featuring the character Busy Betty. Coben is the bestselling author of more than 30 novels, many of which have been adapted for the screen by Netflix.

Witherspoon and Coben announced the book in a video on X, with Witherspoon saying, “It has everything: a really interesting female character at the center, international adventures, and so many twists and turns.”

Gone Before Goodbye is scheduled for publication on October 14.
