Reese Witherspoon will make her fiction debut with a novel co-written by Harlan Coben.
Grand Central will publish a suspense novel from the duo in the fall of 2025, the press announced in a news release. The book is currently untitled.
Witherspoon is beloved in the literary world for her popular book club, which recently celebrated its 100th selection. She is also the author of a nonfiction book, Whiskey in a Teacup: What Growing Up in the South Taught Me About Life, Love, and Baking Biscuits and three children’s books featuring the character Busy Betty.
Coben is a veteran of suspense, having written more than 30 thriller novels, a dozen featuring his signature character, sports agent Myron Bolitar. His latest novel, Think Twice, was published in May.
The plot of their novel is under wraps. Grand Central said, “Witherspoon and Coben have been developing the concept, creating characters, and writing pages over many months of collaboration. A screen adaptation is also in development.”
Coben said in a statement, “I’ve been a huge Reese Witherspoon fan for years. Be it acting, producing, creating, and even book-club selecting, Reese’s instincts about storytelling across all media are unrivaled. Once we began discussing her idea, there was no turning back. Collaborating with Reese has been a pure joy and so creatively rewarding.”
Witherspoon shared news of the novel on Instagram, writing, “As a massive fan of Harlan’s work, I can’t believe he agreed to co-author a novel with me. I’m either the most persuasive person alive or the idea of this book is just TOO GOOD! Maybe both ??”
